Policy on
Collection Drives in the Davis Library Entry
Area
The Library makes the Davis Library
entry area available to campus groups taking up
collections of goods for various causes. The
following policy is intended to ensure equitable use
of the entry, while also maintaining the safety and
orderly appearance of the area.
- Only groups with official University
recognition through the Carolina Union may use the
Davis Library entry area to solicit donations.
- Collections must be made using the
Library-provided container. Collecting groups
should provide an identifying sign during the
collection period.
- Only one group at a time may conduct a
collection drive in the Davis Library entry
area.
- A group may reserve the collection box once per
year, and for a maximum period of two months.
Requests will be considered on a
first-come/first-serve basis. If the entry area has
not been reserved by another group, collection may
continue until a new request has been received and
approved.
- The collection box should be emptied whenever
it is full, and no less than once per week.
Collected items should not be placed on the floor
or elsewhere in the Library entry area, or be
allowed to overflow the collection box.
- The Davis Library entry may not be used for the
collection of live or perishable items.
- The Library is not responsible for items left
in the collection box.
- Organizations whose collection activities do
not conform to the above policy may be asked to
discontinue their collection in the Davis Library
entry area.
