The Joseph Curtis Sloane Art Library's collection of more than 100,000 volumes includes books, exhibition catalogs, serials, CD-ROMs, art documentaries and art films, microforms, illuminated manuscript facsimiles, artists' books, and online resources on the art of all periods from prehistoric times to the present, worldwide. The Art Library's collections are supplemented by UNC-CH's University Libraries, with holdings of over five million volumes in campus libraries, as well as extensive electronic resources.
The North Carolina Women Artists Archive, the Artists File, and the Museums File are available. The Sloane Art Library also holds the Department of Art's theses and dissertations, with additional copies in the North Carolina Collection in Wilson Library. The North Carolina Collection also maintains a file on North Carolina artists.
The online catalog now includes entries for most print and electronic titles in campus libraries' collections, while the University Libraries' web site provides access to a wide array of electronic resources. The Art Library provides reference services, bibliographic instruction, and reserve reading. Self-service microform readers, VCR and DVD players, photocopiers, laser printer, scanners, and wireless access for laptops are available.
