Art and Archaeology Technical Abstracts
Abstracts of the international literature of conservation and heritage management in a free online database. Indexes journals, some of which are held by the UNC Libraries, such as Restauro, as well as monographs, periodical literature, conference proceedings and preprints, occasional papers, relevant electronic resources, audio visual resources, and dissertations and theses. An important ancillary resource for the art historian and curator.

CoOL [Conservation OnLine: Resources for Conservation Professionals]
One of the most comprehensive conservation gateways on the web, with many links to home pages of conservation organizations and associations (see below for some of those home pages)and a searchable archive. See also the discussion listserv ConsDist List, which is archived on CoOL; to subscribe send the message 'subscribe ConsDistList yourname' to consdist-request@lindy.stanford.edu

AIC [American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works]
Includes objects specialty groups discussion archive. (OSG-L), a useful glossary of conservation terminology, and general information for the layperson, such as how to locate a conservator and caring for works of art; links to related sites.

CCI [Canadian Conservation Institute]

CHIN [Canadian Heritage Information Network]
An essential site for conservators of any nationality, as it includes many bibliographical databases. BCIN, the searchable bibliographic database on conservation includes the holdings of the CCI Library, the ICCROM Library, the UNESCO-ICOM Museum Information Centre and the ICOMOS Documentation Center.

ECCO [European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers]
Includes the organization's online newsletter.

Getty Conservation Institute
Includes a number of online publications: policy documents, pdf monographs, and the Newsletter.

Heritage Preservation
An organization for the preservation of the collective American heritage.

ICOM [International Council of Museums]

ICOMOS [International Council on Monuments and Sites]
A searchable site.

IIC [International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works]

Journal of Conservation and Museum Studies
An academic electric journal, with issues online.

UKIC [United Kingdom Institute for Conservation]
A newsy site with links to its specialist sections (paintings, gilding, wall paintings.)

WAAC [Western Association of Art Conservators]
Includes on-line newsletter.

Northeast Document Conservation Center
An excellent gateway to information on the conservation of works of art on paper, photographs, and library collections, with many useful links.

* Controversy about conservation:

ArtWatch International
The 'Amnesty International' of the art world, this site, maintained by Professor James Beck, monitors treatment of works of art worldwide; its newsletters and press releases are online. Includes "Bill of Rights" for a work of art.
