Selected Topical Resources African and/or African-American Art African-American Artists On Disc (Art, CD-ROM) is an incredibly rich resource by a UNC alumna, Lynn Igoe. Africa-wide NiPAD is an important multi-disciplinary resource. Anthropology Plus should also be consulted, as in the earlier period of art history African art was the domain of anthropologists and ethnologists. Black Studies (Davis, CD-ROM) Based on the collections of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture of the New York Public Library. Ethnic Newswatch includes the full text of newspapers and journals of the minority press, with coverage back to 1960. International Index to Black Periodicals includes abstracts from more than 150 scholarly and popular journals, newspapers, and newsletters from the United States, Africa, and the Caribbean--and full-text coverage of 32 core Black Studies periodicals (1998 forward). American Art America: History and Life is a major index for American material culture including documentary photography and art. HarpWeek is one of the most important 19th c. illustrated magazines and it is a significant resource for that century. Making of America project is a collaborative effort by the libraries of Cornell University and the University of Michigan to present digital copies of primary source materials published in the United States from before the American Civil War to the 1920s. Nineteenth Century Masterfile provides access to journals, magazines, books and some newspapers. Smithsonian American Art Museum is a major gateway for American Art research. Ancient Art ABZU, is a guide to resources for the study of the ancient near east available on the internet. L'Année Philologique (print edition on Index shelves, and AnPhilNet, its internet version, which also has a handy list of journal abbreviations) for research from antiquity to ca. 8th c. A.D. Arachne's Web, the UNC Classics Department's site, is a good gateway to many sites such as the Beazley Archive and the Perseus Digital Library . ARGOS search engine for the Ancient and Medieval Internet. Dyabola is a major resource for classical antiquity, produced by the Deutsches Archäologische Institut. Archäologische Bibliographie (Davis: Z5132.A7) is the corresponding print edition. Fasti Archaeologici, The International Association for Classical Archeology. (Davis GN700 .I552). Asian Art ABIA : South and Southeast Asian Art and Archaeology Index Bibliography of Asian Studies indexes works in the humanities and social sciences published since 1971. Southeastern Asian Serials Index provides recent (1995--) indexing for more than 100 academic journals. Islamic Art (also Asian, African) Creswell, K. A. C. A Bibliography of the Architecture, Arts, and Crafts of Islam (Z5956.I8 C74, Art Reference). The major bibliography for Islamic art and architecture, it includes supplements and an update is scheduled to be published soon. In addition, the Creswell Photographic Archive, which includes more than 6000 searchable images and textual descriptions, is available on CD-ROM at Davis Reference. Index Islamicus is a large multi disciplinary index of European-language materials, with coverage back to 1906. Consult also the related print editions, with coverage back to 1665 (Davis Reference Z7835.M6 L6) Islamic Art and Architecture is the Sloane Art Library's guide to resources. Latin American and/or Latino Art Ethnic Newswatch includes the full text of newspapers and journals of the minority press, with coverage back to 1960. HAPI (Hispanic American Periodicals Index) indexes more than 400 key humanities and social science journals, providing information on Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America, as well as on Hispanic-America. Handbook of Latin American Studies is a major annual bibliography with coverage of the social sciences and humanities back to 1935. ATLA Religion Database is the major index in the field ofreligion. Bible in English includes the most significant texts of the Bible. Index of Christian Art indexes more than 18,000 works of art from early apostolic times to AD 1400. Emphasis is on the art of the western world; includes bibliography, references to reproductions and a number of links to images. International Medieval Bibliography - This bibliography of the European Middle Ages (c. 450-1500) has been produced in print form since 1968 by the International Medieval Institute (University of Leeds). Coverage is drawn from over 4,000 periodicals as well as from miscellaneous collections of conference proceedings, essay collections, and Festschriften. Iter: Gateway to the Middle Ages and Renaissance indexes more than 300 scholarly journals, with annual updates. Labyrinth is a major gateway for medevial studies. Manuscripta Medievala provides online access to brief descriptions of thousands of medieval manuscripts held in major European libraries, universities, and other repositories. Orb: the Online Reference Book for Medieval Studies is a scholarly site with links to other major medieval websites such as Byzantium. searchable full texts of art and architecture treatises
published between 1470 and 1775. CERES : Cambridge English Renaissance Electronic Service includes many useful links relevant to England and beyond. Iter: Gateway to the Middle Ages and Renaissance Historical Abstracts indexes more than 200 journals; its scope is the Renaissance to present day, worldwide. As the most important historical journals are represented for each country worldwide, it is useful for almost all scholarly research. Internet Resources for Medieval and Renaissance Studies is a comprehensive scholarly site. Guides for other more specific topics, e.g. iconography, women artists, Native American art, science, technology and art, contemporary art are or soon will be located at the reference desk and/or on the Sloane Art Library Course and Research Guides page.
