della Valle, this is the 6th edition of Vasari's
landmark 1568 work. Vasari, the "father of art
history," is portrayed in a vignette by Giovanni
Battista Leonetti after a drawing by Giuseppe Cades.
Cades (1750-99) a painter of history, mythological and
religious subjects, was known for his copies after
Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Leonetti, who died
before 1830, was active in Rome and produced engravings
