Subject Searching:

To search the online catalog for books on your subject, use the broadest terms for the most results. Search, for example, by subject for indian art north america, or for the subject or figure represented, e.g. coyote legendary character, or object type e.g. quillwork or sandpainting. Tribal group is another possible search, e.g. inuit or seminole indians. Try keyword searches in addition to subject searches.

Note: While American Indian is the preferred term, it is not a Library of Congress subject heading. LC headings are Native Americans or Indians of North America.
