Patrick L. Tomlin is the new CALA (Carolina Academic Library Associate)
in the Sloane Art Library. A graduate of the University of Alabama,
he comes to UNC with an M.A. in Art History from Florida State University
("Modernism and Mass Culture: the Early Photography of Paul Outerbridge")
and is completing his doctoral dissertation, "Origins of Abstraction: Arthur Dove and American
Artistic Identity, 1910-1930," at Northwestern University.
Patrick has also been an adjunct lecturer on American art at
Northwestern, and curatorial assistant at the Ringling Museum of Art and the Huntsville
Museum of Art. In additition to the CALA fellowship, he has also received predoctoral funding from the Luce Foundation.
His goal is a career in academic librarianship.
