Course Reserves at the Sloane Art Library

Instructors in the Art Department (and other departments, if their courses concern art or art history) may place items on reserve at the art library each semester. Reserve books are shelved behind the circulation desk and can be checked out for 4 hours at a time.

To search current reserves, please click here.

Requesting reserves for your course

Instructors may place up to 30 volumes on reserve at the art library for each course. Your reserves can include books from other libraries on campus; they will be transferred from their home location (e.g. Davis Library) to the art library reserve shelves for the duration of the semester.

To submit a reserve list, please complete this form and either drop it off at the art library or send it to the Art Library Assistant, Josh Hockensmith, for processing. (Email: hockensm@email.unc.edu; Campus Mail: Sloane Art Library, CB# 3405)

Please submit your requests for course reserves well enough in advance that we will have time to process them and resolve any problems. We ask that you send your reserve requests by August 1st for Fall semester, by December 15th for Spring semester, and by April 15th for the Summer sessions.

Please note that this process is for book reserves only. All electronic reserves are handled through the Undergraduate Library in a separate process. For electronic reserves, please visit http://eres.lib.unc.edu.libproxy.lib.unc.edu/eres/default.aspx.

Reserve loan policies

Reserve books in the art library are shelved behind the circulation desk. To request a book from reserve, just ask at the desk. It is helpful if you have the call number, but we keep a notebook of all the books on reserve by course, so we can help you to look it up if you're not sure.

Books on reserve at the art library can be checked out for 4 hours. Most reserve books can be checked out and taken from the library, although a small number are required to be used within the library. If you check out a reserve book less than 4 hours before the library is scheduled to close, you may keep the book overnight. It will be due back within 1 hour of the library's opening time the next day.

Overdue fines for reserve books are $1/hour overdue.
