From 1980 to 2008, the staff of the John N. Couch Biology Library, Botany Section compiled the publications of 18 botany faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill to commemorate their contributions in the plant sciences. When available, offprints of journal articles were used in the collected papers; otherwise photocopies were used.

Only title pages of books were included in the compilations. Publications within each volume are arranged chronologically and numbered to correspond to the entries used in the table of contents. Currently the collected papers represent 2,600 publications and are housed in the North Carolina Collection.
