Couch Biology Library: Mycological Reprints Collection

The mycological reprint collection consists of the nearly 9,000 pamphlets, emphasizing taxonomy, nomenclature, and genetics. William C. Coker, the first chairman of the UNC Department of Botany and mycologist of international acclaim, was instrumental in developing the collection. Other UNC mycologists, notably John N. Couch and Lindsay S. Olive, also helped in developing the collection. In 1986, Dr. Frederick T. Wolf, mycologist at Vanderbilt University, gave the library 4,800 mycological pamphlets, of which approximately 3,000 were added to the reprint library. The Wolf Collection included the life-long assemblage of pamphlets by Frederick A. Wolf, father the donor, who taught at Duke University.

Catalog cards for reprints supply authors, titles, and literature sources. The mycological reprint catalog is housed in the Botany Section Library. The reprints themselves are housed in another building and must be requested through the library staff.
