Second from right is Orville Campbell, who was editor of the Daily Tar Heel. He later went on to record Andy Griffith’s “What It Was Was Football” on his Colonial Records label. Orville later bought the Chapel Hill Weekly, and turned it into the Chapel Hill Newspaper. Famous alums of the CHN included Jeff MacNelly and Jim Shoemaker, who was the subject for MacNelly’s cartoon strip “Shoe.”

Orville and Mr. Morton were old friends. Many a Saturday night at the newspaper, Mr. Morton would come in and deliver film of a Carolina game for our darkroom staff. It would appear on the front page of the Sunday paper.
