I am almost certain the officer in the above photo is the late Horace Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a detective and director of the Columbus County Bureau of Indentification under the late H. Hugh Nance while he was Sheriff of Columbus County. The photo appears to have been taken in the old Sheriffs Office which was located upstairs in the Courthouse/Whiteville. I have no clue who the man is being fingerprinted. Mr. Shaw had a long and honorable career in Columbus County until ill health caused his retirement in 1972.
