Bodie Island Lighthouse

Every year, as part of its Reliable Lighthouse Restoration Initiative, JELD-WEN provides new windows and doors for one historic lighthouse. This year, North Carolina’s Bodie Island lighthouse (a favored photography subject of Hugh Morton’s) is one of the 12 finalists.  Vote now!

Thanks Elizabeth for putting the Bodie Island Lighthouse voting link in this post. I was pleased to vote for this North Carolina landmark.

There is another great Hugh Morton photograph of the Bodie Island Lighthouse in his 2006 book, “Hugh Morton: North Carolina Photographer.” It’s on page 111.

If he had chosen to do so, Hugh Morton could have done a book on just his North Carolina lighthouse photography. Here’s just of few of his lighthouse shots that have appeared on the cover of “The State” magazine.

    Cape Fear Lighthouse - December 3, 1949
Cape Fear Lighthouse - March, 1973

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse - January, 1982
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse - May, 1984 (In addition to this great lighthouse shot, there is also a Highland Games piper on this same cover).

Oak Island Lighthouse - August, 1986
