Wow. The reply came in less than 30 minutes, a new North Carolina Miscellany record! Kay Kyser is the correct answer. I’ll make the next one a bit harder.
For those of you who don’t know anything about Kay Kyser, you can read about the Rocky Mount native in the Inventory of the Kay Kyser and Georgia Carroll Kyser Papers, 1906-2004, a manuscript collection maintained by Wilson Library’s Southern Historical Collection.

Thanks for pointing that out, Kevin. We also have several VHS and DVD copies of motion pictures in which Kay Kyser starred.
