This item was recently used in the North Carolina Collection reading room. I couldn’t help but notice the attached advertisement (which, I suppose, is the point), and I really couldn’t help but notice the service it offered.

An ambulance service and funeral home? I think I will go with whoever has the competing ambulance service.

My grandfather was a funeral director in SC starting in the 1940s and I remember his stories about being an ambulance driver while working for the funeral home. And if memory serves, I think they kept a separate ambulance vehicle (they didn’t use the hearse) to pick up sick people.
