I actually sent an email to the address on his campaign website suggesting that he should say “I was just repeating what I heard someone from Lexington say about eastern-style.” Too bad it will never reach the man himself.

I agree, John. If we’re going to give the man another swing at this, it should be with some of our consensus best. I understand he’s coming to Charlotte soon, so we can look for a reprise of the “Is there any good barbecue in Charlotte?” debate. When he comes here for some serious campaigning, he should eat both eastern and western styles, and then we’ll see how he handles something really controversial.

Perry was a veritable quote machine that day — agriculture commissioners apparently travel without handlers.
– “The folks from North Carolina are good people; they’re caring people,” said Perry. “I just wish they would have stopped and picked up some Texas beef on the way instead of picking up that road kill.”
– “It looks to me like they barbecued an elephant,” joked… Perry.
