Electors are now required to vote for the candidates of the political party that selected them. An elector who fails to do so-or refuses to attend the electoral college--is subject to a $500 fine. Additionally, the elector&#039;s errant vote is considered a resignation from office. Her vote is not counted and the remaining electors select someone to fill the vacancy.]]></description>
