All ages are invited to “a banquet of beastly rhymes” with author Bob Forbes, as he reads from his newest collection of poetry for children, on Saturday, May 7, at 3 p.m., in the Wilson Special Collections Library. “Let’s Have a Bite! A Banquet of Beastly Rhymes” (Overlook Press) features thirty-three “delectable rhymes about animals naughty and nice.” Characters including a photogenic buffalo, a color-changing emu, and a well-dressed narwhal are illustrated by British artist Ronald Searle. Sir Walter Raleigh will be the topic of a program April 14 in Wilson Library. Mark Nicholls will discuss his new book, “Sir Walter Raleigh: In Life and Legend” (co-authored with Penry Williams).
The free public program will begin at 5:45 p.m. in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room. A reception and small exhibit of items from the Library’s Sir Walter Raleigh Collection will precede the talk at 5 p.m. in the main lobby. On April 12, treasures will come out of the stacks at the Rare Book Collection in UNC’s Wilson Special Collections Library in the second annual display of recent acquisitions.
In the free public program at 5:45 p.m., Curator of Rare Books Claudia Funke will survey modern rare book culture and this year’s acquisitions, highlighting the inclusivity of rare books. Participants will have the opportunity during a reception beginning at 5 p.m. to view additions to the Rare Book Collection from the past year. Continue reading
