Brauer Library - Borrowing Information

Library Cards

The barcoded UNC-CH OneCard serves as the library card for all faculty, students, and staff and must be presented when checking out materials. All other patrons who wish to borrow materials from Brauer Library must present a valid borrower's card, which may be obtained from the Davis Library Circulation Department.

TRLN Borrowers:

Borrowers from Duke, NCCU, and NCSU are able to use their University cards at participating TRLN libraries. Patrons must first present their University cards to the Davis Library Circulation department for registration purposes before using their cards at the Brauer Math/Physics Library and other libraries on the UNC-CH campus.

Renewals

Items may be renewed if not on hold for another patron or not needed for Reserve. Patrons can bring the book to the library with their library card to have the book renewed. Borrowers can also renew items electronically via the MyAccount Login Page. Please be aware that the number of remote renewals allowed is NOT unlimited. After 3 (THREE) remote renewals, the patron is required to bring the book to the library in person

Note: When you renew an item off-campus, remember to write the new due date on the date due slip.

Recalls and Holds

All items are subject to recall for other users and Reserve. Reserve requests are recalled immediately. Due dates for other items checked out will be changed to 14 days from the date the recall was requested. Due date changes will be noted on the recall notice. To make a recall request or to place an item on hold use the Brauer M/P Recall Request/Hold New Book Form

Overdue Policy and Fines

Library patrons are expected to return or renew items by the due date that is stamped on the date due slip at the time of checkout. The Library sends overdue notices as a courtesy, but is not obligated to do so.

Overdue Fines:

Books: 50¢ per day for each day the Library is open, in a 3 day grace period.

Reserve Materials: $1.00 per hour beginning immediately after time due

"LIBRARY USE ONLY" materials should not be taken from the library for any reason. If a library use only material is taken outisde the library an automatic $15 fine will be assessed

Maximum Fine
Book $25.00
Recalled Book $56.50
Reserve Item $50.00

Replacement Charges

Patrons are responsible for items that they have borrowed and will be billed for their loss. An item is automatically declared lost when 42 days past due, and a bill is automatically generated for a replacement fee for the item plus a $25.00 processing fee. After patrons are billed, they will be charged the maximum overdue fine of $25.00 even if the item is returned.

Replacement Fees

Books: $125 or actual replacement fee, whichever is higher

Other Formats: Replacement fees vary

Paying Fines and Fees

Brauer library only accepts payments for fines and fees generated by our library and on the day that they incur. To make payments for items belonging to other libraries and after this time period, patrons will need to go elsewhere. All users should pay regular overdue fines at Davis Library. Faculty members and general library users should also pay outstanding bills at Davis Library. Students should report to the Office of Student Accounts and University Receivables to pay bills generated by the library. That office is located in the Student Academic Services Building North, on south campus at the intersection of Ridge Road and Manning Drive.

Returning Books

It is recommended that all materials be returned to the library from which they were borrowed to avoid delinquency problems. During regular hours, Brauer materials should be returned to the circulation desk in the Brauer Library. If it is not possible to return items during operating hours, items may be returned at Davis Library.
