Brauer Library - Selected Resources for Research in Computer Science

(Brauer Math/Physics Library is abbreviated M/P in the library catalog.)

I. ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

A. Select list of Computer Science E-Journals available at UNC-Chapel Hill

B. Article Databases

INSPEC (1898-present)
INSPEC is the world's largest bibliographic database for the fields of physics, electrical engineering and electronics, computers and control engineering, and information technology.

ISI Web of Science (1980-present)
Including Science Citation Index Expanded, the ISI Citation Databases provide cited reference searching of the scholarly literature in many disciplines.

The Alan Turing Digital Achive
King's College of Cambridge, UK has organized this massive archive of mainly unpublished papers and photographs of the father of the turing machine and referred by many as one of the founding fathers of computers. Included in the site content are talks and publications of Turing on the Automatic Computing Engine, his work at the Nartional Physical Laboratory, the theories of computable numbers, digital computers, and more. A very well put together source of Turing's work that can be found nowhere else.

C. Journal Collections (with full text and search and browse capabilities)

ACM Digital Library (1985-present)
The ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Digital Library contains an online archive of all ACM publications from 1985 to the present. Only citations are available for some conference proceedings published before 1991.

IEEE Xplore (1988-present, select content from 1950 onwards)
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Xplore provides access to IEEE transactions, journals, magazines, and conference proceedings published since 1988, select content from 1950 onwards, and all current IEEE standards.

Kluwer Journals Online
Kluwer Journals Online is the gateway to journals published under the various Kluwer imprints.

LINK Springer Online
LINK is an information service that provides access to Springer journals and book series.

ScienceDirect
ScienceDirect serves as a gateway to selected journals published by Elsevier and its partners.

D. Preprint Sources

ArXiv.org e-Print archive (Cornell University)
ArXiv.org provides access to scholarly articles in physics, mathematics, non-linear science, and computer science.

E-print Network: Research Communications for Scientists and Engineers (Department of Energy)
This resource provides access to e-prints and other scientific information on thousands of websites and databases around the world. It permits browsing by scientific discipline in addition to a Deep Web search capability that combines full-text searching of PDF documents on e-print websites with a distributed search across e-print databases.

E. E-Books

The Online Books Page (University of Pennsylvania)
This source provides links to over 400 free online books in mathematics and computer science. The site also offers searching and browsing by title and author.

Safari Tech Books Online
This electronic library provides access to full text versions of many books on programming and information technology.

Free Tech Books
A great open source site where authors post their works, covers topics ranging from all forms of programming, operating systems, graphics and image processing. Each book available in PDF format with great description, contents and reviews.

F. Reference Sources

The Collection of Computer Science Bibliographies

STATSnetBASE
STATSnetBASE provides full text access to statistics reference sources published by CRC Press. Its content includes statistics in computer science, business, law, medicine, and many other scientific disciplines.
