Little magazines publish a wide variety of creative work in literature and the other arts with little or no regard for commercial gain. Many major literary figures of the twentieth century published their early works in these venues, before they were acceptable to mainstream publishers. These magazines have also been fundamental to the genesis, growth and dissemination of literary and artistic movements. Finally, they have published authors whose work might be regarded as too innovative or experimental for more mainstream journals. For all these reasons, little magazines are of interest not only to faculty and students in the English Department, but also to the general public.

Existing holdings of little magazines indexed in the Index of American Periodical Verse, 1999 are listed below, with (UNC) and/or (Duke) to show holding libraries. Check library holdings and locations in the online catalogs of UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University. You may also Request Acquisition of a Title.

Titles to be ordered will be acquired by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They were identified in the Index of American Periodical Verse, 1999, but are not yet available.
