Digital Librarian

Digital Librarian is a directory of websites maintained by Librarian Margaret Vail Anderson. With approximately 100 different categories of websites, this site may be useful as a starting point. Of particular interest are the following:

  • Languages
  • International Resources
  • European Commission Cultural Portal

    This portal leads to numerous resources and information about European culture including dance, architecture, music, theatre, and much more. The section on books is especially interesting as it pertains to legislation, culture, and the digital age

    Iberian Studies Web (WESS)

    The Iberian Studies Web is designed to provide access to scholarly resources in Iberian Studies (for Spain, Portugal and Andorra).

    Intute: Social Sciences: EuroStudies

    As part of the UK Resource Discovery Network, this Internet directory "provides the very best Web resources for education and research for the social sciences, including law, business, hospitality, sport and tourism." One can browse by country or region to find pertinent websites on an array of topics. The Virtual Training Suite contains tutorials on conducting internet research in a variety of fields.

    Instituto Camões

    Named after the famous Portuguese writer Luis Vaz de Camões, the aim of the Instituto Camões is to promote the diffusion of Portuguese literature and culture abroad by providing links to a number of resources, gateways and downloads.

    Instituto Cervantes

    El Instituto Cervantes es la institución pública creada por España en 1991 para la promoción y la enseñanza de la lengua española y para la difusión de la cultura española e hispanoamericana. Se encuentra en Madrid y en Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, España, lugar de nacimiento del escritor Miguel de Cervantes. Los centros del Instituto están situados en cuatro continentes.

    Real Academia Española

    La Academia "tiene como misión principal velar porque los cambios que experimente la Lengua Española en su constante adaptación a las necesidades de sus hablantes no quiebren la esencial unidad que mantiene en todo el ámbito hispánico."

    Libraries & University Projects

    Biblioteca Nacional de España

    The Biblioteca Nacional also includes a Hemeroteca digital, providing access to the Library's digital collection of historic Spanish press. It currently contains 143 titles published between 1772 and 1933, with more to be added throughout the coming years.

    Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal

    DIALNET

    DIALNET is a virtual library of Spanish academic journals, hosted by the Universidad de la Rioja in Spain. It is primarily a database of tables of contents with a limited number of full-text articles available.

    LIBRO The Library of Iberian Resources Online

    LIBRO is a project of the American Academy of Research Historians of Medieval Spain and the University of Central Arkansas. The collection focuses upon peninsular history from the fifth to the seventeenth centuries.

    CRL Center for Research Libraries

    CRL's mission is to foster and advance scholarly inquiry through cost-effective, cooperative programs that provide reliable access through traditional and electronic means to unique and unusual collections of library materials. Includes all appropriate formats, is international in scope, and comprehensive in disciplines, with an emphasis on worldwide newspapers, international doctoral dissertations, scholarly journals and textbooks.
