    LANIC Latin American Network Information Center (LANIC)

    LANIC's mission is to facilitate access to Internet-based information to, from, or on Latin America. Many of their resources are designed to facilitate research and academic endeavors. LANIC is affiliated with the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS) at the University of Texas at Austin.

    LANIC: Libraries & Reference in Latin America

    LAOAP Latin American Open Archives Portal

    LAOAP is a portal service providing access to social sciences grey literature produced in Latin America by research institutes, non-governmental organizations, and peripheral agencies. It encompasses working documents, pre-prints, research papers, statistical documents, and other difficult-to-access materials that are not controlled by commercial publishers. LAOAP is part of LARRP, the Latin Americanist Research Resources Project.

    LAPTOC Latin American Periodicals Tables of Contents

    LAPTOC is a searchable Web database that provides access to the tables of contents of more than 800 journals, primarily in the humanities and social sciences, published in Latin America. LAPTOC is part of LARRP, the Latin Americanist Research Resources Project.

    Sistema Regional de Información en Línea para Revistas Científicas de América Latina, el Caribe , España y Portugal.

    LATINO: Bancos Bibliográficos Latinoamericanos y del Caribe

    The portal gathers 114 data bases with bibliographic descriptions from libraries of institutions in 14 countries of the region: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Data from Spain are also available. Funded by UNESCO.

    Portals to the World: Selected Iberian, Caribbean and Latin American Internet Resources (Hosted by the Library of Congress)

    This Internet portal, created and maintained by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, provides librarian-selected links to country-specific Internet resources.

    "CLACSO es una red internacional, no-gubernamental y sin fines de lucro dedicada a promover la investigación, discusión y difusión académica en diversos campos de las ciencias sociales. Fundada: Por científicos sociales latinoamericanos de 35 instituciones en 1967."

    Libraries & University Projects

    Biblioteca Digital Puertorriqueña de la Universidad de Puerto Rico

    This website is a portal to various collections of primary sources related to the history and culture of Puerto Rico. Digitized documents include photographs, posters, caricatures, maps, manuscripts and letters from the 19th century to the present.

    CALAFIA California Cooperative Latin American Collection Development Group

    A consortium of California libraries made up of Stanford University, the University of California System, and the University of Southern California. The combined Latin American holdings of the CALAFIA group number more than one million volumes.

    CARINDEX An index of literature published in the Caribbean

    CARINDEX is an index to the contents of some 70 West Indian journals, published within in the Caribbean region. It also includes theses and papers presented at conferences. CARINDEX has two parts: CARSAH covers publications in the social sciences and humanities from 1983 onwards; CARSCI covers publications in science and technology from 1960 onwards. It is prepared and maintained by the Library of the University of the West Indies (UWI).

    Colecciones Mexicanas

    "Colecciones Mexicanas es un proyecto que nace con la finalidad de difundir y preservar acervos documentales, fotográficos, videográficos, bibliográficos y hemerográficos sobre la historia de México. Buscamos que las colecciones aquí incluidas sean de relevancia para estudiantes, académicos, investigadores o cualquier interesado en conocer y ampliar su cultura sobre la historia de México."

    Consortium in Latin American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University

    The Consortium's objective is to enhance the Latin American curriculum on both campuses, provide research and training opportunities for students and faculty from all disciplines, and increase public awareness of the importance of Latin American cultural studies and traditions.

    Handbook of Latin American Studies (hosted by the Library of Congress)

    The Handbook is a bibliography on Latin America consisting of works selected and annotated by scholars. Edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, the multidisciplinary Handbook alternates annually between the social sciences and the humanities.

    LADARK Latin American Development Archive

    LADARK, from the University of Texas at San Diego, is an online archive of working papers and other materials related to economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

    LAMP Latin American Microfilm Project

    LAMP, a CRL project, consists of forty-two institutions which acquire, preserve and maintain collections of unique, scarce, rare and/or bulky and voluminous research materials pertaining to Latin America. LAMP conducts projects in cooperation with Latin American repositories and devotes great attention to filming primary source materials. Includes the Brazilian Government Document Digitization Project, which has digitized and provided Internet access to executive branch serial documents issued by Brazil's national government during the period between 1821 and 1993, and by its provincial governments from the earliest available for each province to the end of the Empire in 1889.

    LANE Latin America North East Libraries Consortium

    LANE consist of a group of fifteen academic and research libraries in the northeastern United States committed to building and maintaining Latin American studies collections. The consortium promotes collaborative projects that enhance the depth and scope of the combined collections and facilitates access to them. The information available on their site is intended for both LANE members and researchers with an interest in learning about the availability of Latin American research resources in the region. Also includes video consortium at NYU's Avery Fisher Center.

    LARRP Latin Americanist Research Resources Project

    LARRP is is a cooperative initiative of North American, Latin American, and Caribbean libraries that seek to improve access to the array of research resources published in Latin America. Its primary components are:

    Latin American and Caribbean National Archives & Libraries

    A list of links to the national archives and libraries of many Latin American and Caribbean countries. Maintained by Tulane University for LASER.

    Latin American Government Documents Archive (LAGDA)

    LAGDA is a joint project of the University of Texas Libraries, The Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, and LANIC (Latin American Network Information Center). The Archive contains copies of the Web sites of approximately 300 government ministries and presidencies. Content includes full-text versions of official documents as well as original video and audio recordings of key regional leaders.

    University of California,Berkeley, Stanford University, and The University of Texas at Austin Research Library Cooperative Program

    Combines the Latin American resources at the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, and the University of Texas at Austin. This agreement attempts to rationalize acquisitions activities as they relate to the Latin American collections and aims to extend and deepen their strengths by focusing acquisitions and development efforts in complementary areas

    University of California, San Diego - Latin American Election Statistics

    This site is a valuable resource for finding sources of Latin American election statistics. Despite the fact that only seven countries are currently represented and although the statistics are not reproduced here, the bibliography for locating them is indeed comprehensive. Indexed by year, coverage begins at independence and continues to the end of the twentieth century. A glossary of electoral terms is also part of the site.

    BRASA Brazilian Studies Association

    BRASA is an international interdisciplinary group of scholars who support Brazilian studies in the humanities and social sciences.

    Conference on Latin American History

    The Conference on Latin American History (CLAH) is a professional association devoted to encourage the diffusion of knowledge about Latin America through fostering the study and improving the teaching of Latin American history.

    LASA Latin American Studies Association

    "The Latin American Studies Association (LASA) is the largest professional Association in the world for individuals and institutions engaged in the study of Latin America. With over 5,000 members, twenty-five percent of whom reside outside the United States, LASA is the one Association that brings together experts on Latin America from all disciplines and diverse occupational endeavors, across the globe."

    SALALM Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials

    SALALM's primary missions are the control and dissemination of bibliographic information about all types of Latin American publications and the development of library collections of Latin Americana in support of educational research.

    Research Organizations

    ARL (Association of Research Libraries, Latin Americanist Research Resources Pilot Project)

    The purpose of this project is to create a prototype for fully connected collections for Latin American studies; the two primary projects focus on periodicals and presidential messages. Participating libraries have accepted institutional collecting responsibilities for a cross-section of over 400 periodicals published in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. The Presidential Messages database contains digital images of presidential speeches from Mexico and Argentina.

    CRL Center for Research Libraries

    CRL's mission is to foster and advance scholarly inquiry through cost-effective, cooperative programs that provide reliable access through traditional and electronic means to unique and unusual collections of library materials. Includes all appropriate formats, is international in scope, and comprehensive in disciplines, with an emphasis on worldwide newspapers, international doctoral dissertations, scholarly journals and textbooks.

    Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. (FAMSI)

    This site provides information about recent research, publications, and grants related to Mesoamerican studies. One of the site's most useful resources is John Montgomery's Dictionary of Mayan Hieroglyphs, which is made partially available over the Internet. Entries appear in alphabetical order according to their phonetic spelling and include the hieroglyph, phonetic transcription, part of speech, and meaning.

    Programa Cultura, Comunicación y Transformaciones Sociales

    This organization (formerly known as Programa Globalización, Cultura y Transformaciones Sociales) is "dedicated to the study of contemporary social processes from a general perspective that stimulates the integracion of the analysis of cultural aspects with political, social and economic aspects of these processes."
