Recalls are requests made by a borrower to obtain a book that is checked out by
another borrower.
Recall requests are available in two ways:
- Filling out a card and handing it in to the Circulation desk in Davis, and
- By filling out a Recall Request online.
Library books may be recalled after a borrower has had the book for thirty days. A recall may reduce
the loan period for a book. Notice of the new due date will be sent to the borrower and will supersede
the date stamped in the item.
Library notices are sent to the addresses provided by the
Office
of the University Registrar, the Personnel Office, or in the case of
Courtesy Borrowers, the addresses provided on the borrower's application
form. Notices will be emailed to patrons if they have signed up for
email notification. Books are due approximately ten days from the date the recall notice
is sent.
Patrons who have submitted a recall will be notified when the requested book is available. Please
present the notice to Circulation staff when picking up the item.
Availability of a requested book can also be determined by using
the
My @ccount web page to view your account.
If you have any questions about recalls, please contact
David Farrell.
When Do I fill out a recall/hold card?
1. When the item is checked out to another patron.
(The status online will say "Checked out")
2. When the item is checked out to a carrel or
faculty study. (The status will say "Checked out")
3. When the item is a new book. (i.e. the book
has a copyright date of the current year, the book has yet to be checked
out by anyone, the books inventory date is with four week of the date item
is requested and the status online says available. All criteria must
be met for a book to be considered a new book.)
When can't I fill out a recall/hold card?
1. When the item is available. (New Books also
have an available status. Check with the Circulation Department when in
doubt.)
2. When the item has been placed on reserve in
Undergraduate Library, Sloane Art Library, or any other Departmental Library.
3. When the item has a status of missing,
lost, loan or withdrawn. (Contact the Circulation
Desk about your options.)
4. When the item is non-circulating. (i.e. Journals
or Building Use Only Books)
5. When the item has a status of damaged.
6. When the book does not belong to Davis Library.
Reminders
1. Double check the information you write on the card. Incorrect information
can result in slow processing.
2. Please fill out all information on the card on both
sides.
3. If you have questions, please ask a supervisor at the Circulation
Desk.
Storage Request
Off-Site storage requests are available in two ways:
- By filling out a Storage Request Form at the Davis Circulation Desk.
- By filling out a Storage Request Form Online
Requested material will be available for pick-up at the Davis Library Circulation Desk.
Material requested before noon will generally be available after 4 pm on the same day.
Storage retrieval service is available business days.
Retrieval service may be available on weekends and holidays as demand requires.
Patrons can also request that Storage Requests be sent to any Academic Affairs Departmental Library,
the Health Sciences Library, and the Law Library.
You will be notified when the item is available for you to pick up.
Circulation staff will attempt to notify patrons when storage requests can not be found,
either by the telephone number or email address provided on the request form.
Material not picked up after seven days will be returned to storage.
Trace Request
What is a trace?
Traces are available for anyone who cannot locate materials in the stacks
of Davis Library.
When should I fill out a trace?
Traces should be filled out for the following circumstances:
-
For any book listed as available in the online catalog that cannot be located
in the stacks.
-
For journals or building use only books that should be in the stacks and
can't be found. (Note: for current serials/journals patrons should check
at least twice before initiating a trace)
When shouldn't I fill out a trace?
Traces should not be filled out for the following circumstances:
-
If the book is checked out. In this case a recall
request should be filled out.
-
If materials have only been looked for once.
-
For current journals that are unbound.
Once materials are located, trace notices are sent back to the patron.
The request can be picked up at the Circulation desk in Davis at anytime during
library
hours.
