Catalog Search Tips

Searching for books in the Library's catalog is often best done by either Keywords or Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). Start with a Keyword search and identify one or more relevant books. Then look at the LC subject headings given in the Full Records of those titles. You can follow the subject heading links in the catalog to find similar books, or you can use the terms in the subject headings to revise your search strategies. You may want to limit your searches to English language publications. Here are some sample searches.

Keyword Search: feminism literature china

Browse by LC Subject Heading: Chinese literature -- Women authors.

Browse by LC Subject Heading: Chinese literature -- 20th century -- Women authors.

Browse by LC Subject Heading: Feminism -- China..

Browse by LC Subject Heading: Sex role -- China.

Keyword Search: chinese literature women

Browse by LC Subject Heading: Women and literature -- China.

Browse by LC Subject Heading: Women -- China -- Social conditions.

Other Potentially Useful LC Subject Headings:

Women -- China -- History.
Feminism -- China -- History.
Women -- Employment -- China -- History.
Women -- Legal status, laws, etc. -- China -- History.

Search for books By a literary author as an Author search; search for books About a literary author as a Subject search.
