This Library of Congress classification system holds true for any library in the world using the LC system. For example, the history of Central Europe will always be classed DAW, that of Eastern Europe DJK, that of Russia, the Soviet Union, & Poland DK. Political Science is in the Js, Economics and Business in the Hs,etc. Becoming familiar with these general areas will greatly facilitate your research. Refer to the classification outline for other subject areas.

ABSEES Online (American Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies).
The American Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies (ABSEES) has been compiled continuously since 1956. It covers North American scholarship on East-Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, and contains bibliographic citations for journal articles, books, book chapters, book reviews, dissertations, and selected government publications.

Business Source Premier.
This database includes indexing, abstracting, and full text for more than 8,800 serials. It provides full text back to 1965 (or the first issue published for that journal) for more than 350 journals and searchable cited references back as far as 1998. See also other Business databases.

CEEOL - Central and Eastern European Online Library
CEEOL is an online archive which provides access to full text PDF articles from 433 humanities and social science journals and re-digitized documents pertaining to Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern European topics.

Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is designed to be the most complete source for theory and research in international affairs.

Kodeks Legal Database
Kodeks Database is a major source for Russian legislation comprising hundreds of thousands of documents going back to 1991.

Lexis Nexis Academic.
Provides full-text access to general, regional and international news, company news and financial information, & legal information. LexisNexis Academic covers general, regional and international news, company news and financial information, legal information (including law reviews, case law and legal rulings), and other topics such as biographical information.

OECD iLibrary
OECDiLibrary is the Online Library of Statistical Databases, eBooks, Periodicals, and Working Papers from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service) International with ARCHIVE.
The PAIS International database is a bibliographic index to the literature of public policy, social policy, and the social sciences in general. Journal articles; books; government documents; statistical compilations; committee reports; directories; serials; reports of public, intergovernmental, and private organizations.

PolicyFile (Public Policy Research and Analysis).
PolicyFile draws its content from public policy think tanks, university research programs, research organizations and publishers.

Project Muse
Access articles from approximately 100 journals in humanities and social sciences.

RAND Publication Database.
The RAND research organization publishes many papers and reports on topics of current public policy interest, including such areas as criminal justice, education, national security and international affairs, energy, and science and technology., the index record links to the full text of the report.

Russian/CIS Statistical Publications.
This database contains electronic versions of publications from the major Russian statistics agency Goskomstat Rossii and its regional statistics agencies, Statkomitet SNG, and statistical agencies of the former Soviet Union (statistical yearbooks, monthly analytical reports, regional statistical information, and annual statistical abstracts).

The World Bank's annual World Development Report (WDR) is an valuable guide to the economic, social and environmental state of the world today.

World News Connection (WNC) is an online news service that offers an array of translated and English-language news and information. Particularly effective in its coverage of local media sources, WNC allows one to identify what really is happening in a specific country or region. Compiled from thousands of non-U.S. media sources, the information in WNC covers significant socioeconomic, political, scientific, technical, and environmental issues and events. WorldCat is a union catalog of more than 100 million records representing the electronic holdings of several thousand libraries. Catalog Search Tips

Subject searching for books in the Library's catalog is often best done by beginning with a Keyword Search . Start with a Keyword Search and identify one or more relevant books. Then look at the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) given in the Full Records of those titles. You can follow the subject heading links in the catalog to find similar books, or you can use the terms in the subject headings to revise your search strategies.
