Entering a Web Address

Once you've deleted the current address, there should be a blinking cursor in the Address Bar. This means that you can type in your web address. If you wanted to go to CNN's site, for instance, you would type in www.cnn.com. Remember, you don't need to manually type the http://. Your browser will add that for you. Some sites no longer require you to type the 'www' either. When you have typed in the entire address for the web page you want to visit, press the ENTER key on your keyboard. Let's try it!

  1. Open up a new window or tab. (Forgot how? Click here for instructions)
  2. Left click in the address bar and erase the address of the homepage by pressing DELETE
  3. Type in www.cnn.com
  4. Press ENTER on your keyboard
  5. This should bring you CNN's home page
  6. Don't exit this window entirely, instead you can minimize it. Minimizing a window allows you to reduce a window to an icon that will appear on your taskbar at the bottom of your screen. This is used when you do not want to work with this window at the moment but want to come back to it again later. To minimize the window, use your left mouse button to click on the minus sign in the top right of your browser window (see image below).
