Opening a Web Browser
To open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox on your computer, use your left mouse button to click the Start button at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Point to "All Programs" with your mouse (if the browser you would like to select is not already available in the Start Menu), locate the browser you would like to use, and then click once with your left mouse button.
You can also locate and open a web browser on your desktop by following these steps:
- Click once with your right mouse button on an empty area of the taskbar at the very bottom of the screen and select "Show the Desktop" with your left mouse button. This will minimize your open windows so that you only see the desktop.
- On the desktop, select the icon of the browser you would like to use and either click it twice quickly ("double click") with your left mouse button, or click it once with your left mouse button and press ENTER on your keyboard.
- If you find you have trouble "double clicking", you can try this alternate method: click on the icon once with your RIGHT mouse button and a menu will open, move your mouse to highlight the menu option that says "Open" and click once with your LEFT mouse button.
The browser should open up on your computer screen. To get back to this window if you are using Windows XP, click the Community Workshop Series | Web Basics Tutorial button on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen. If you are using Windows 7, click the Internet Explorer icon and then select Community Workshop Series | Web Basics Tutorial (see image below).

Click the Next button to continue.
