Who may apply?
- Registered graduate students are eligible for assignment to graduate carrels for a maximum of three continuous years.
- Undergraduates writing an Honor's Thesis may be eligible for assignment to an open cubicle for a maximum of two semesters.
The following list prioritizes those individuals eligible for a carrel:
- PhD candidates writing dissertations
- Masters students writing theses
- PhD candidates preparing for qualifying exams
- Masters students preparing for qualifying exams
- PhD candidates completing coursework
- Masters students completing coursework [including MBA and Law]
- Honors Students and Others
- Others, when space allows
Applicants falling into catagories 1-4 will be assigned to closed carrels when space permits. Applicants in catagories 5-8 will be assigned to open carrels. All carrels are subject to doubling!
How do I apply?
Applicants must fill out an application form available at the Davis
Library Circulation desk in its entirety. If it is not possible
to reach an advisor to get a signature, the Departmental Secretary's signature will be accepted.
Forms returned incomplete will not be processed. Intentional misrepresentation
of information on this form may make the applicant ineligible for assignment.
Applicants are notified by email when assignments are available for pick-up. Applications not
picked up 30 days after being processed will be purged and the applicant will have to reapply.
I think someone has been in my carrel!
The Carrel office makes biweekly visits to each carrel to page requested books, check the carrels
for uncharged/building use only materials as well as to ensure that
Carrel Policies are being followed. Patrons are
reminded that they will have a carrel-mate because doubling of carrels is
mandatory.
When do I need to renew?
The renewal process is covered on the Carrel Policies
web page.
