What is a trace?
Traces are available for anyone who cannot locate materials in the stacks
of Davis Library.
When should I fill out a trace?
Traces should be filled out for the following circumstances:
- For any book listed as available in the online catalog that cannot be located
in the stacks.
- For journals or building use only books that should be in the stacks and
can't be found. (Note: for current serials/journals patrons should check
at least twice before initiating a trace)
When shouldn't I fill out a trace?
Traces should not be filled out for the following circumstances:
- If the book is checked out. In this case a recall request should be filled out.
- If materials have only been looked for once.
- For current journals that are unbound.
Once materials are located, trace notices are sent back to the patron.
The request can be picked up at the Circulation desk in Davis at anytime during
library hours.
