Wireless access for UNC affiliates

Wireless access is available throughout Davis Library for UNC affiliates. For information and instructions on how to configure your Wi-Fi card for use on the UNC-Chapel Hill Network see the ITS guide "Connecting to the UNC Networks".

Wireless access for Guests & Visitors

Guest wireless access is available in several of the University Libraries for visitors bringing their own laptop or device with 802.11 wireless (Wi-Fi) capability. The Tar-Heel wireless SSID provides guest access network connectivity to those individuals without a UNC Onyen (authentication ID) and are using the University Libraries for research. This service provides web, email and VPN access to off-campus destinations and web only access to on-campus hosts, once the user has accepted the terms and conditions for campus guest Wireless Internet Access.

Windows Configuration
To configure your Windows laptop to connect to the Tar-Heel network, go to: Start >> Settings >> Network Connections and select the Tar-Heel Network.

UNC affiliates who connect to the Tarheel network instead of the UNC-1 network can still access the UNC libraries’ licensed online resources but will need to authenticate first with their Onyen. The Tarheel is not a secure network so it is highly recommended that affiliates use the UNC-1 network. If you have any questions or need assistance setting the UNC-1 network as your preferred wireless network, please Ask-A-Librarian.

Visitors or guests who need to access the UNC libraries online resources cannot currently do so through the Tar Heel network. Access is available through many public computers throughout the libraries. If you have any questions or need assistance, please Ask-A-Librarian.
