Policy for Displays, Charitable Collections, and Related Activities

Application Form

We welcome use of Davis Library by the University's students, faculty, and staff in ways that further inquiry, learning, and service at the University. These uses may include:

  • Exhibits of student art;
  • Charitable collection drives;
  • Campus-oriented activities that take place outside of Davis Library.

Such uses of Davis Library must be approved in advance by the Library; must respect the needs of those using the Library for research, study, and teaching, and as a workplace; and must comply with other Davis Library building policies

All activities covered under this policy are at the sole discretion of the Library and must conform to the following guidelines:

  • Send your request using the form. We consider requests on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority given to Library uses. The duration of your activity or project should be one month or less. Students and student groups must supply the name and contact information for a UNC course instructor or faculty advisor. Proposals for art exhibits will be reviewed by the Library's Public Art Committee, which may require additional information in order to evaluate proposals.
  • A bulletin board for open posting of fliers by the campus community is provided near the building exit. The board is cleared regularly.
  • Apart from items on the bulletin board, the Library will not approve: advertisement of items for sale; campaigning or other partisan activities; distribution of literature, samples, or other materials inside the Library; placing of screensavers or other images on Davis Library computers; hanging banners from the exterior of the building; providing meeting facilities for clubs or other groups.
  • Any installation, display, collection receptacle, or other activity should prominently include your name and contact information, or that of your organization.
  • The Library will move or remove any items if they appear abandoned; impede access to, egress from, or use of the building; are in poor condition; fall outside the scope of the approved request; or otherwise at our discretion. We will make a reasonable effort to contact you so that you may claim your items; we will dispose of unclaimed items at our discretion.
  • You are responsible for providing all of your own materials, equipment, and labor, and for the security of any items associated with the activities covered in this policy.
