Policy for Displays, Charitable Collections, and Related Activities
We welcome use of Davis Library by the University's students, faculty, and staff in ways that further the Library's mission of supporting inquiry and learning at the University. In the past, such uses have included:
- Displays in the Library's display cases;
- Charitable collection drives;
- Exhibits of student art;
- Distribution of publications on the first floor.
Such uses of Davis Library must be approved in advance by the Library; must respect the needs of those using the Library for research, study, and teaching, and as a workplace; and must comply with other Davis Library building policies
All activities covered under this policy are at the sole discretion of the Library and must conform to the following guidelines:
- Send your request using the form. We will consider requests on a first-come-first-served basis and ask that dates for your activity or projectnot exceed one month. Uses by the Library will be given priority. Students and student groups must supply the name and contact information for a UNC course instructor or faculty advisor.
- We cannot approve use of the Library as a place to advertise items for sale; for campaigning or other partisan activities; or as a meeting facility for clubs or other groups.
- We will not place screensavers or other images on Davis Library computers.
- We reserve the right to move or remove any items if they appear abandoned; impede access to, egress from, or use of the building; are in poor condition; fall outside the scope of the approved request; or otherwise at our discretion. In such cases, we will make a reasonable effort to contact you so that you may claim your items; we will deem unclaimed items abandoned and will dispose of them at our discretion.
- The name of and contact information for the sponsoring individual or organization should be prominently included with any installation, display, collection receptacle, or other activity.
- For exhibits: Please install your own materials and clean up thoroughly. If you plan to use the exhibit case, you must meet first with a member of the Library staff for an orientation to using the case safely and effectively. The Library has a small number of holders for displaying Library books without damaging them; you will need to supply all other materials.
- The Library is not responsible for the security of items placed in the display case, exhibited in the Library, left for charitable collections, or otherwise associated with the activities covered in this policy.
