How Do I Get Materials That Are Not Owned By
Campus Libraries?
With over 5 million volumes owned by the
UNC-CH libraries, it may seem like all the
resources you need are on campus. However, there
are times that you may need to borrow something
from another library. Interlibrary
Borrowing allows you to borrow books,
journal articles, microfilm, or audio-visual
materials from libraries around the world by
following a few simple steps.
1. Record all the citation information for the
item you are requesting. This includes: the title
of the work, author/editor, publisher, date and
place of publication, edition and ISBN. If you
are requesting an article you will also need to
know the article's title and author, volume and
issue number of the journal, month, year, and pages.

2. Determine the date by which you need these
materials. You will need to specify this date
when you fill out the Interlibrary Borrowing
Request form. It usually takes 2-3 weeks for
items to be delivered. However, material from
Duke, NC State University, and NC Central
University usually arrives in 2-4 working
days.
3. Select
your home department to go to the online request
form.
4. You will be notified by email when the
requested item has arrived. If an item is
delivered electronically, you may login to the
system and print the article yourself. If not,
you may pick up your items at the appropriate
library.
NOTE: You do not need to know at which
library the requested material is available, but
if you do know, you can include this information
in your request form to expedite the process.

Services page for more
