How Do I Know Which Library To Use?
The Chapel Hill campus has numerous
libraries and knowing where to start can be
confusing. A helpful overview
of the Library system and a map
with links to many individual libraries are
available from the Library's home page.
For the most complete list of libraries and
collections with links to their Web pages select library
hours.
Davis
library is the central, and largest,
library, with a collection centered on the
humanities and the social sciences. The other
large libraries on the main campus are the House
Undergraduate Library, an
interdisciplinary collection also housing the Library
Reserves and the Media
Resources Collection, and Wilson
Library, home to the Manuscripts,
North
Carolina, Rare
Book, and Maps
collections, and the interim home of
the Music
Library. Further afield are the
Katherine R.
Everett Law Library, located in the
Law School, and the Health Sciences
Library, on South Campus adjoining
the School of Medicine and UNC Hospital
complex. There are also over a dozen smaller
libraries in departments, schools, and research
institutes supporting specific fields of study
ranging from art to zoology.
You always can start by contacting the Davis
Library Reference Department or the
Reference librarians in
House Undergraduate Library. If Davis or House is not where you should be, the
librarians will be happy to assist you in
determining which of the campus collections is
more suited to your research and information
needs.
