Who We Are
The Media Resources Center, part of the R.B. House Undergraduate Library, serves
the instructional and curricular needs of the University community and the individual study,
scholarship, cultural enrichment and recreation needs of UNC students and faculty. The collection
contains more than 19,000 16mm, VHS, laser discs and DVDs, hundreds of screenplays & popular music on both LP and CD. The Media Resources Center provides
viewing and listening facilities for in-house use, reserves for media materials and digital audio
and video labs open to students, staff and faculty with a valid ONYEN.

With 30 VCR/DVD stations, 8 Audio-cassette/CD/MiniDisc stations, 2 Audio-cassette/CD/LP stations,
2 LaserDisc/Pal video station, a 16mm projector, and a slide viewer on the premises, you can use any
of our items or reserve materials here. None of this audio/visual equipment circulates. Proper
identification (UNC OneCard, TRLN card, Duke or NCSU student ID, Town Borrowers Card) is required
for the use of all equipment or materials at the Media Resources Center.

The Digital Media Lab gives UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty and staff access
to the latest in multimedia software and hardware. Our lab offers eleven work stations, each one
offering a wide range of video hardware and software including iMovie, iDVD, Final Cut Pro, DVD
Studio Pro, Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop. Whether you want to make that wedding
video look just right, create your first website or produce a full-length documentary, we have the
tools you need to do it!
The Digital Audio Lab has a G4 Apple PowerMac, 88-key weighted MIDI keyboard,
Nady condenser mics, MOTU audio interface and an Emagic Logic mixing board. Equipped with software
such as GarageBand, Logic and Bias Peak, the Digital Audio Lab allows everybody from the beginner to
the pro to create music from the ground up.

Sydney Pollack (1934-2008)
Pollack began his lifelong relationship with acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School where he studied under
Sanford Meisner for a couple of years, and later taught. After teaching acting, he moved to television - where
he eventually began to direct and produce. During his career, Pollack directed 21 films and produced dozens more.
His films were repeatedly nominated for academy awards. And, in 1985, Pollack won best director for his film
"Out of Africa." The last film he directed was the highly acclaimed 2005 documentary "Sketches of Frank Gehry."
Pollack's final performance can be seen in the recently released film "Made of Honor" where he plays an oft
married but completely affable dad to comic effect.
