For much of our research we rely on secondary sources of information - second-hand reports about events, studies or research published in books and articles. When using secondary sources, it is important to be aware of the distinction made between books and articles that are considered "scholarly" or "professional" and those that are considered "popular."
How these distinctions are defined again depends on the context of the research and the discipline, but these information sources often differ in purpose, audience, and physical appearance.
