Finding Books: Requesting Delivery
The process for requesting books is the same as the process for requesting
articles. The same forms that are used to request articles can be used
to request books or other information resources. The University Libraries
and Health Sciences Library both have their own request forms. Just
remember that the form you use depends on the department or school you
are affiliated with, rather than where the book is housed.
For more information on the process of requesting materials, you can
check the University Libraries' Borrowing
FAQ page and the Health Sciences Library's Borrowing
Materials page. Also, please be sure to keep in mind the
following:
- Be sure to fill out the form completely and clearly. Incomplete
or illegible forms will be returned to you.
- Only ONE request per form.
- To speed the process, please indicate the source of your reference,
e.g. MEDLINE, INFOTRAC, etc. Include page numbers, Unique Identifiers,
Accession Numbers, or the abstract numbers from online or CD-ROM
searches. If your source is another library's catalog, please indicate
which one.
- You must provide a complete citation -- incomplete forms will
be returned to you.
- Do not use abbreviations for anything that is written out in
full in your source. If the source uses abbreviations, copy them
exactly as they appear.
- If the material is not owned by the UNC libraries, there could be
a time delay in getting the material to you and there may be costs
involved.
