Finding Books: Searching by Subject Headings

Another way to search is to use subject headings. Since searching by subject heading can be tricky, we recommend the following search strategy:

  1. Perform a search by entering the terms that describe your subject;
  2. Choose an item and then click on the Description tab in the item record in order to see a list of subject headings.
  3. Revise your search using the terms in the subject field or click on the linked subject heading.

The following is an example of using these three steps to effectively find relevant sources on the subject of the role of nutrition in aging and health:

Step 1: Do a Keyword Search using:
aging and nutrition and health

catalog keyword search

This search will give you over 200 resutls. To reduce the number of items to a more manageable number you need to identify the correct subject search term or terms.
