One key method (although not foolproof) is to check for ".org" or ".edu" as the URL extension. A site with a "~" is a personal site and ".com" is a commercial site; these can range from the excellent to the unreliable. Other things to think about include whether or not the information is relevant to you. Depending on the topic, the currency of the information may matter.
