For guidance in writing about art, the UNC-Chapel Hill Writing Center has an excellent online guide, Writing in Art History. The Ackland Art Museum also has a guide, Writing about Art. Books like the Short Guide to Writing about Art or History of Art: a Student's Handbook may also be helpful. Search the UNC Library's online catalog by title for locations and call numbers.
You may also enjoy reading short excerpts of a number of art historians' analyses of major works of art to get a sense of different approaches and writing styles.
Encyclopedia Britannica Online includes "Research Starters," and you may need help from an online dictionary - try Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged.
You should also ask your instructor which citation style you should use.
