Objectives

Each academic discipline develops a unique body of knowledge that is communicated through its literature. Before you begin researching a topic in biology, it is important to have a basic understanding of how the literature is produced and disseminated.

In this section you will learn:

  • How scientists use scholarly literature to communicate their research;
  • What is meant by peer review;
  • The difference between primary and secondary literature.
