CBE / CSE Style

scientific format and style book coverThere are several different citation "styles" put out by various scholarly associations, including MLA (Modern Language Association), APA (American Psychological Association), and CSE (Council of Science Editors). Each one has its own manual or set of guidelines for describing the proper way to format a paper or another type of written work. CSE (formerly CBE for the Council of Biology Editors) Scientifc Style and Format, is the preferred style manual for biological science publications, but it is not the only one. Be sure to check with your instructor to see what the preferred style is for your assignment.

For more information, visit the Council of Science Editor's website. For more information consult the Scientific style and format : the CSE manual for authors, editors, and publishers in a science or acaemic library close to you (Call Number T11 .S386 2006).
