About this Tutorial

The Web Basics Tutorial is a series of Web-based, self-paced modules designed to help you get more comfortable using the World Wide Web. It was designed to supplement the Web Basics Workshops, part of the Community Workshops Series. The Community Workshops Series is a collaborative effort of the University Libraries at UNC-Chapel Hill, the Chapel Hill Public Library, the Carrboro Branch Library, and the Carrboro Cybrary. The tutorial provides you with information that will help you use and understand the World Wide Web. It also introduces basic terminology associated with the World Wide Web, goes over some helpful miscellaneous skills, and introduces the topic of personal safety on the World Wide Web.

The tutorial will be updated regularly. We encourage and invite all users to share their comments and suggestions for the tutorial and we look forward to hearing from you.

The tutorial was developed by Jenny McCraw, School of Information and Library Science, under the direction of Lisa Norberg, Instructional Services Coordinator, with assistance from Shauna Griffin, Instructional Services. The content of the tutorial was primarily adapted from a handout created for the Community Workshops Series, a collaboration between the UNC University Library, the Chapel Hill Public Library, and the Carrboro Branch Library. For more information on the Community Workshops Series, please visit the following web page: http://www.lib.unc.edu/instruct/community_workshops/.
Some definitions and search examples were also adapted from the "Internet Basics" handout, provided by the Public Library Charlotte-Mecklenburg County.
