Launching a Web Browser

"Launching" is just another way of saying "opening." So when you hear about "launching" a program, like a web browser, that simply means opening and running that program.

If you're reading this page, you may already know how to access a web browser (and you may not even know that you know how!). If someone else found this page for you, however, you need to learn to locate and access a web browser on your own. To access a web browser (like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) using Windows, use your left mouse button to click the Start button, scroll up to Programs, and locate the browser you would like to use. The image below shows the Programs menu.

You can also locate and access a web browser on your desktop by following these steps:

  1. Minimize any pages you have open by clicking on the minimize buttons in the top right of each window (the minimize button is the one with the minus sign image).
  2. Select the icon of the browser you would like to use and double click on it with your mouse. The Internet Explorer icon looks like this:

  3. The browser should open up on your computer screen. If it doesn't work, you can try clicking once on the icon and then hitting the enter key on your keyboard.
