A Sample Search in Google

You already know that the search box is the white box in the middle of the screen. It is located right above the buttons that read Google Search and I'm Feeling Lucky. Use your left mouse button and click inside that white box.

To search for information on Google, you will simply type your search terms in the search box. Search terms are words or phrases that describe the information in which you are interested.

Let's do a sample search:

  1. If you haven't already clicked inside the search box with your left mouse button, go ahead and do that now.
  2. When the cursor is blinking in the search box, you're ready to type.
  3. Let's say you're interested in taking a trip to Germany, and you want to find out more information about the country. Type the word Germany, then use your left mouse button to click on the Google Search button, located under the search box.

Notice the many advertisements that appear on the right-hand side of the page. Google separates these links from legitimate search results, but some search engines don't. Always look carefully at a site's description before clicking on it.
