Before your workshop session:
- You should receive an e-mail a day or two before your session with a list of the participants and their contact informationif it is available.
- Plan ahead to prepare any handouts you may want to provide. We can provide copies for the participants so contact the program coordinators (see below) to make arrangement for copies.
Arriving at the library:
- The Chapel Hill Public Library is located at:
100 Library Drive
Chapel Hill , NC 27514
Tel. 919.968.2777
See the library website for a map, bus schedules and more information about the library. - Instructors/coaches should arrive at 8 or soon after at the staff/delivery door near the staff parking lot. Press the buzzer and a librarian will let you in.
- Instructors can check the computer set up and coaches will let participants in the door (the librarian who lets you in can show you how to work the door).
- **Drop-ins: We've had no-shows for most workshops, so if folks drop by who aren't registered, it's probably okay to let them in, if the instructor approves.
Teaching suggestions:
- While the instructor teaches, the coach can float and help people at their stations.
- We ask that you begin and end each workshop by mentioning that the workshop is a collaborative effort between the university and the town.
- Many participants have had minimal computer skills (even in non-computer workshops), so be patient. You may need to repeat things a few times. (The basic classes have been popular and will remain on the schedule; some folks have been attending multiple sessions for practice.)
- Please mention public access computers at UNC Libraries, since many area residents don't know about this. You might also mention internet access to the UNC Library Catalog.
After the workshop:
It's important to escort folks out the door at the end of the workshop. Even if the workshop runs a few minutes over, the participants must leave the library, which is not open until 10am . They cannot linger on their own in the stacks or in the computer lab.
After the workshop, please fill out the brief online report found at http://www.lib.unc.edu/instruct/community_workshops/instructors/report.html . Please include a note about any difficulties, problems, successes or suggestions you had during the session whether it is about participants, library staff, equipment or the lesson plan or handout.
