The University of North Carolina’s Documenting the American South project and the School of Education will offer a 3 day workshop for middle and secondary social studies and language arts/English teachers.
The workshop will be held June15-17 on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Teachers from local school systems and from across the state are invited to attend. Non-local teachers will be provided housing and accommodations.
All teachers who complete the workshop will be eligible for a $250 stipend and technology CEUs.
Institute participants will be introduced to Documenting the American South’s online archives (http://docsouth.unc.edu) and to historical resources available on the UNC campus.
Participants will also be introduced to instructional applications of digital narratives in the classroom and create their own digital history narrative. A historical narrative is a short digital movie that explores some facet of history. It is typically one to three minutes in length, contains a montage of images, text or movies accompanied by a narration done in the students own voice. Participants will learn how to create their own historical narrative, using the Documenting the American South collections.
Participants will be expected to read information that will be mailed prior to the institute.
