Using EndNote with JSTOR

Before you begin exporting JSTOR records, you will have to install the JSTOR filter so that EndNote will be able to read the references correctly.

To download the JSTOR filter, go to http://www.jstor.org/help/endnote_filters.html. You can either follow the directions printed on the website, or click on the JSTOR EndNote Filter link and save the file in the EndNote Filter folder. If EndNote is running you will have to close and reopen the program for the JSTOR filter to be listed.

1. Conduct a search in JSTOR. For each record you would like to export, click on the Save Citation link located in the bottom right-hand corner of each citation.

2. When you have saved all of the citations you would like to transfer, click View Saved Citations.

3. This will bring you to the export options screen. From the drop-down menus, select
as a text file in citation manager format.

4. Click on Export and save the file. Remember where you save the file so that you can retrieve it from within EndNote.

5. Open EndNote and select the library you would like to use. Under the File menu select Import.

6. The Import screen will appear. Under Import Data File, select the text file you just saved. Under Import Option, select JSTOR. You may have to click on Other Filters… in the drop-down menu to locate the JSTOR filter. Keep Text Translation set to No Translation.
