Using EndNote with Lexis/Nexis

Note: These directions will help you import Lexis Nexis records into EndNote. However, it will import the full record, including full text, and will include other extraneous data (such as the word “by” in front of an author’s name). If you choose to use this filter, you will have to edit each record in EndNote to suit it to your needs.

Installing the Filter:

Before you begin exporting Lexis Nexis records, you will have to install the Lexis Nexis filter so that EndNote will be able to read the references correctly.

To download the filter, go to http://steenbock.library.wisc.edu/instruct/endnote/EndNote_lexis.htm. Click on the Customized Configuration filter link and save the file in the EndNote Filters folder. If EndNote is running you will have to close and reopen the program for the filter to be listed.

Exporting Documents:

1. Conduct a search in Lexis Nexis. You will have to export each record individually. To do this, click on the title of the record.

2. In the full record screen, click on the Print tab in the upper right of the screen.

3. Click on Display Document.

4. In the File menu of your browser window, click on Save As. Save the file as a text document in a location you will easily remember.

5. Open EndNote and select the library you would like to use. Under the File menu select Import.
