The Creative Commons is
a relatively new set of licenses for use on non-software creative endeavors
(literature, art, music, video). There are many licenses to choose from,
with various sets of rights that are passed on to the public. The Creative
Commons licenses revolve around three basic choices:
- Do you want to require attribution (i.e. do you want people to know you were the original author?)
- Do you want to allow commercial use of your work by others?
- Do you want to allow others to modify your work?
These three variables determine the actual license that you apply to your work. Many artists, including writers, filmmakers, and visual artists to musicians, license their works with Creative Commons licenses.
